Her mother named her Amber, because of the beautiful leaves seen in the park. Ambers' Mom would take a walk by the basketball court to the park daily. The beautiful hues of the parks leaves were her inspiration to name her unborn baby Amber.
When Amber was ten years old her Mom said, "she was a child that could adjust to anything". Ambers' mom said that this character trait would someday be very beneficial to her. Positive and negative events would enter her life as she grows. How Amber handles her challenges will influence her lifes' path.
At age thirteen Amber was told some horrifying news from her grand mother Rose that no child should ever have to hear. Her grand mother was standing in her front yard as she returned home from school. Amber was told that her Mom was found in a gas station bathroom. Ambers' step dad had taken her life with an overdose of heroin. Her Mom was pregnant at the time with Ambers' sibling.
Amber was distraught and depressed. She was unable to cope or understand this dreadful happening in her life. She asked her grand mother why did this happen? Amber felt grief and sadness beyond measure and fell to the ground.
Ambers' grand mother said, "you will come live with me"! We will work this out together. Over time we will find some comfort through prayer and faith.
One day Amber asked grandma Rose if she could take a walk. Rose said okay, but take my cell phone in case you need to talk to me. Amber was walking to the park and hoping to see friends from school playing on the basketball court. Amber loves playing on her middle school basketball team. She was staying absent from practices because of her sadness and grief.
There were no kids on the court that day. Amber did not have her basketball with her. The park was totally silent, deserted and eerie. Amber did not hear any birds singing. Amber sat down on a park bench. A man was walking toward her from the other side of the court. He looked elderly and was carrying a basketball. This man said my name is Michael, would you like to play basketball with me Amber? Amber replied, how do you know my name? The man did not respond. Amber was unsure about this situation. It could be threatening to her well-being. She wondered if she was followed. Should she dial her phone for help? Amber said, I cannot talk or play ball with you. You are a stranger to me! Amber did not make eye contact, turned and started to walk away.
This strange man said do not fear me. I'm here to give you a message from your Mom. She is saying that she is always with you watching over you. She loves you very much! Your difficulties in your life will be overcome by your faith.
Michael then told Amber to please forgive him for frightening her. Amber then turned back around. There was no one there. She saw an object in the distance lying on the ground. As she approached the object Amber realized that it was a basketball.
Amber wondered if she had fallen asleep on the park bench and had this dream. If so why was there a basketball there now and not when she arrived? Amber picked up the ball and threw a ringer as she was crossing the court.
This experience would always be in her mind. The basketball that she took home that day would always be a reminder to Amber. Amber felt a positive loving presence near her that was indescribable. She knows it's her Moms' spirit. Amber kept this secret from others for many years!
